While the COVID-19 pandemic has led to the cancellation of arts programming internationally, artists continue to create work from their living rooms and bedrooms, and on the near empty streets of the city. The City of Vancouver Public Art Program invites Vancouver-based artists and artists from the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ (Tsleil-waututh) First Nations to submit art projects that respond to the complexities of the current situation that we find ourselves in.
The Public Art Program seeks to commission up to 20 new public artworks in two-dimensional media to be presented on available print, digital image and video platforms. We are looking for artworks that have not been exhibited before and that respond to the current circumstances. These can include works made during the lockdown, or pieces made prior to COVID-19 that are all the more relevant and necessary today.
Submission Deadline: July 7th at 4:00 pm.
